SEAT Method

Also called the Dysfunctional Thought Record, the SEAT Method (Situation, Emotion, Automatic Thought, Truth) is the most important CBT skill of all.  It uses some of the other tools in this toolbox.  It is called the "SEAT" to make it really easy to remember. The easier a tool is to remember, the more likely it is that it will be used and be helpful. Once you have done these in writing in the more expanded versions in Mind Over Mood or Feeling Good, you can adopt this more abbreviated form.

If you are beginning to feel something you don’t like, take a seat and do a SEAT!
